“Rain in an Oak Forest”

Here is one from the great Ivan Shishkin.

“Rain in an Oak Forest” is an 1891 oil on canvas painting by the Russian artist, Ivan Shishkin. Shishkin lived just south of Saint Petersburg and painted many of his most well-known landscapes within the woods around his home. This is one of those pieces.

Shishkin is remembered as one of the greatest Russian landscape painters of all time. His art is most closely associated with the Peredvizhniki movement, which was the Russian counterpart of the Realism movement happening in France at the same time. His goal was to depict, with complete honesty, the beauty and emotion found within the Russian countryside.

Rain in an Oak Forest” is currently on display at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, Russia.
